Whether it's lifestyle shows on TV, women's magazines or even current events news, the discussion of sugar in our modern diet is a regular topic. And soda drinks have long been given a bad rap for the sugar content contained in these popular beverages.
We know that it's important to stay hydrated, especially during hot weather or when we're exercising or involved in strenuous physical activity.
But, how much water do we require daily?
Opinions vary, but generally we're told to drink around 8 glasses per day. That's a lot of water.. so it's tempting to drink something with a bit of flavour to get those 8 glassfuls down. But soda drinks are filled with sugar, and we're being warned that fruit juice contains as much sugar as sodas. In fact, some experts warn that a glass of grape juice has as much sugar as 4 Krispy Kreme doughnuts. And even sports and health drinks are not as healthy as you may suppose.
It's important for our kids, too, to drink enough fluids throughout the day. And we don't want them to depend on sugar-laden products for their daily hydration.
So.. what's the solution?
Have you heard? Fruit, vegetable, herb infused water is your best bet for staying hydrated.
These lovely fruity iced waters look beautiful, especially when they're presented in various elegant jugs.
But why are they a healthy option?
And... there are so many delicious flavour combinations to try. Check out the following recipes and links.
Some extra notes about infused water
You'll need to infuse the fruit in the water for around 1-2 hours at room temperature or 3-4 hours in the fridge. You can even infuse the water overnight if you like a stronger fruity tang to your water. It's best to make a fresh jugful daily but you could make it last a little longer.
Give it a go and I'm sure you'll find that these healthy alternatives are every bit as good as the soda waters and juices.. in fact, much better.
