Cooking for the family can feel like a chore at times. Especially if you have fussy children or grandchildren to contend with. But whether it is the normal midweek meal or a get together at the weekend, cooking and of course the eating part can be a real enjoyable experience.
So I thought it was worth sharing with you some of the essential tips that will help you serve up restaurant worthy food to the whole family. It may even encourage the children to try new foods and eat more things.
Kit out your kitchen with the right kitchen tools and gadgets
One of the first things you need to consider is your kitchen. It’s all well and good having the intention of cooking amazing food, but if you don’t have the tool, the utensils or the gadgets to create the meals in your mind, you will struggle. Things like a decent pan set or wondering what are the best knife sets to invest in might be thoughts that cross your mind, but with a little research online you will find the right tools for the job.
Focus on using fresh produce
It can be all too easy to full into a rut of using ready meals or pre-prepared food, so try and stay away from that and purchase fresh produce when in store. It could make a difference to your cooking. If you can get any young people involved in the process and let them see the ingredients you are cooking with, not only will you make great food, but it could encourage the children to be more interested in the food itself.
Practice your presentation
I think we can all agree that if something doesn’t like appetizing on the plate, we are less inclined to tuck in. The same can be said for those midweek or weekend family meals. The presentation could really make your food look much more appealing, and entice the family to get stuck in. Of course, you don’t have to do any crazy swirls or foams, but certainly thinking about your presentation could be a great step in the right direction.
It’s not just about the food
It’s not always about the food when it comes to serving a meal, especially if you have adults dining with you. Often the drink you accompany with the food can really enhance the flavors you have cooked with. If it’s a weekend, think about a nice wine to work well with the meat or fish you are serving. Thankfully there is a lot more information about this online.
Taste, taste, taste
The biggest tip at all when it comes to cooking is the taste test. It’s so important to taste the food you are cooking while it is cooking to ensure that you have got the flavor right and that it is seasoned to perfection.
Enjoy the process
Finally, make sure you enjoy the cooking process. Getting in the kitchen and serving up a fabulous meal the whole family love is a great feeling.
