" Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you." -Shannon Alder
When my children were young, I loved to choose the next book to begin reading to them- adventure, mystery, historical novel and more. The kids would curl up around me snuggled close or nestle on a large soft pillow on the floor at my feet. We would inevitably conclude with cries of, "Oh no! One more chapter, please!"
Why read to children?
The benefits of reading have been well-documented: communication skills, mastery of language, logical thinking skills, enhanced concentration, academic excellence, handling new experiences and an understanding of our world. Books can explore life and faith and help children apply God's Word to life in a relevant, natural and understandable way. Developing and sharing a love of stories and books is a legacy that I want to pass on to my grandchildren... and I want to share books that help them learn more about faith and life.
How can you enrich your grandkids lives?
As a grandmother, I read to my grandkids as often as I can. And I buy books for them that I hope will appeal to them and delight. But how can I do more? How can I enrich their lives, guide them and open the door to the world? This is especially difficult for grandparents who live a great distance from their families and grandchildren. One solution is to take out magazine subscriptions for your grandkids.
