My grandkids arrived with the usual noise and excitement; and then there was the rush to the small table where they knew there'll be something laid out for them to eat and drink. (It's grandma's place, after all, and some things are expected.)
They range in age from 2 to 13 years but they all have fun together. The older ones still enjoy playing with and entertaining the young ones although they generally drift off somewhere else after awhile. So, after some fun and games, and jumping on the trampoline, everyone seemed a little tired.
So...I popped on the Hi5 Happy Holidays dvd and immediately the room filled with bright music, action and dance. Within minutes, the kids gathered around to watch, sing and dance. (The older ones arrived too with, 'Hey, I remember these.')
The younger ones were rapt and loved watching the kids on the dvd singing, dancing and being involved with the action. And there was certainly plenty of action- puppets, songs, painting and stamping, decorating a Christmas tree, bubble blowing and more.
I'd watching the dvd previously and had planned a few activities to follow the dvd.
Make some funny fruit faces
Some of the kids on the dvd make funny faces with pieces of fruit. So, while my grandkids were watching the dvd, I set out some paper plates and a tray of fruit. With the inspirational ideas they had just seen, they were quickly creating their own funny faces, and eating them, too.
Both fun and educational
The dvd is filled with plenty of interesting, educational and fun segments that are bright and colourful and short enough to hold the attention of even the younger kids. Child development experts work with the script writers for each series so you know that the Hi-5 dvds are not just entertaining, but educationally sound, too.
My grandkids loved it. I found that, for the younger ones, they would enjoy watching a segment and then doing the activity themselves. It helped to break up the dvd viewing, too, so that they were watching and then doing. And they loved watching, over and over, the music, songs and dance.
Special feature- World Vision content
An additional feature of this DVD is the included highlights of Hi-5’s educational trip to Myanmar to visit the local kids with World Vision.
Award winning production
Hi-5 is a top quality Australian production with a string of awards:3 Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Children’s Program, five ARIA Awards for Best Children’s Album, five Australian DVD and Video Industry Awards an APRA Award, an AMIA Award and a Helpmann Award.

Keep on hand for when your grandkids visit
If you're expecting your grandkids to visit for any time over the Christmas period, this is a great dvd to keep on hand. Not only will they enjoy watching and learning the songs and dances moves, you can also plan some great activities as a follow-on after they watch: painting and stamping, bubble blowing, making sock puppets and more.
Better yet, why not give them a copy for Christmas.
