Brilliant ways to use International Eat an Apple Day to create wonderful family memories
'You can count the seeds in an apple... but you can't count the apples in a seed.'
Are you ready for International Eat an Apple Day? It comes around each year on the third Saturday in September.
Now, stop right there. I know what you're thinking .... what's the big deal with apples?
I know, I know; I felt the same when the notification for International Eat an Apple Day appeared in my Inbox. But I've checked into it, and believe me, if you ignore this special day you're missing a ton of fun for you and your family.
Some amazing health benefits of apples
Still unconvinced? Well, let me start with a few facts about apples. Apparently, it's not for nothing you've been regularly told that 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away.' As well as being delicious, apples can make you skinnier and help fight cholesterol. (There, I grabbed you attention immediately, didn't I?)
But there's more. An apple a day reduces your risk of diabetes, helps detoxify your liver, can help alleviate hemorrhoids and could help reduce your risk of developing pancreatic cancer by up to 23 percent. USDA scientists have investigated over 100 foods, including apples, and you can find a full list of the health benefits of apples here.
Apples are a delicious addition to many recipes
And who can resist a slice of warm apple pie with cream or icecream? In fact, the humble apple is a versatile cooking ingredient. You'll find them as the hero ingredient in such dishes as Avocado and Green Apple Salad, Broccoli and Roasted Apple Soup with Sage Butter, Apple Frangapane Tart with Salted Caramel Sauce and Apple and Blueberry crumble with Roasted Almond and Peanut Topping. Why not try a healthy but delicious Cinnamon Apple Chia Pudding for breakfast.
Pick your own fresh from the tree
