For a time of year that’s supposed to be enjoyable, Christmas really is extremely stressful. Not only is it hard to manage to buy and wrap gifts for everyone that you need to, but there’s also a huge amount of preparation that goes into Christmas itself – and it somehow seems to extend into the weeks around it too! But it’s important that you enjoy the holidays yourself and that you take some time to indulge in what you love as well as what your family wants to do. Here are some tips to help…
Buy Your Favourite Food
It’s so easy to focus on what everyone else wants at Christmas that you can sometimes neglect yourself. Make sure that you indulge in your favourites as well as everyone else’s – look at cheese hampers and enjoy that brie, buy a delicious box of chocolates and don’t let your kids eat all of your favourite ones, and indulge in a bottle of good wine to savour and enjoy. This time of year has a thousand amazing treats for anyone who really loves food – and you should make the most of it!
Go Out For Christmas Lunch
One of the most stressful things about Christmas is all the cooking that you have to do. It sometimes feels like you spend all of Christmas slaving over a hot stove instead of enjoying spending time with your friends and family – if you can hear the laughter of people enjoying themselves in the next room while you’re basting a turkey or stirring a pot of sauce, you’ll probably end up feeling miserable and resentful. This year, you should go out for Christmas lunch. Many restaurants do great deals, and you’ll feel considerably more relaxed, especially when you get back to your house and realise that you don’t have to do any washing up at all.
Treat Yourself To Gifts
When you’re shopping for Christmas gifts for your friends and family, you’ll probably see things that you’ll want for yourself too. Let it be known that it’s okay to buy a few gifts for yourself as well as for your nearest and dearest. If you’re interested in makeup and skincare, the gift sets that come out this time of year for the holiday season are actually pretty good value for money. Don’t buy stuff you don’t need, but if you see your usual moisturiser in a gift set then buy and enjoy it – just make sure that no one’s already bought it for you as a gift!
Be Selfish About Taking Time For Yourself
Remember that it’s okay to be selfish sometimes and to take time out for yourself. If you feel tired or stressed, tell your family, and go upstairs for half an hour by yourself with a glass of wine and your book. It’s hard for people to justify taking time for themselves, particularly if they have a family, but your own health, both physical and mental, is important, and you need to be selfish about staying healthy and happy, so you can return to the party with even more Christmas cheer later on.
