Okay, so, you have the grandkids coming for a weekend visit while mom and dad go away. Well, in that case, you’re going to need to prepare for the visit. The children will be bundles of energy, and might prove a handful. And that’s why you’ve got to make sure you have all the essentials you need for a visit. By doing this you’ll ensure you’re prepared for every eventuality, and that the kids enjoy a visit to remember.
Here is a list of some of the stuff you’ll definitely want to have:
Stock the Fridge
Kids have large appetites, and your grandchildren will be no different. They will no doubt be looking forward to some of grandma’s delicious home cooked food. So make sure you stock the fridge well in anticipation for their arrival. The last thing you want is hungry children to deal with over the weekend. You could even try to get them involved in making their own dishes. How about choosing a night and doing DIY pizza. This gives them a chance to get creative, and make something they know they’re going to like.
Make Sure You Have Plenty of Entertainment
The kids are there to spend time with you, but they will need sources of entertainment as well. Of course, movies, TV and video games are an excellent way to keep them interested. But you need other alternatives too. Besides, you may not even have a TV! Something like a Pokémon card set, a brand new board game, or a model train set would be excellent alternatives. Try to get involved as well as this will heighten the experience for the kids.
Come up With Some Art Bits and Bobs
It’s always advisable to have some art and crafts on standby too. Kids can get bored or switch interests very quickly, and a good granny is a prepared granny. So, have a talk to mom and dad, and get some ideas for art bits and bobs. Think about experimenting and trying out something new and different as well. A mood board is an excellent way to get creative and artistic. It will allow the children to express themselves. And they'll have the opportunity to create something really good as well.
Have Some Sweets on Standby
Everyone knows that kids love sweets! And, as grandma you can be the person who gives them sweets when mom and dad don’t. Make sure it stays as your little secret though! But having some sweets on standby is an excellent way to reward the children for being good. You might also think about using the sweets as an incentive for things. How about getting them to eat all their vegetables with the promise of sweets afterward?!
Now you’re armed with these things you should find the weekend a breeze! It will go much more smoothly, and you might even find the kids are much better behaved. Try to think up some of your own essentials as well. Then you can customize your situation, and make your grandkids enjoy their visit even more.
